Fossil Fuel Divestment
There are many good reasons, both financially and ethically, why people want to avoid fossil fuel companies. Green technologies are getting cheaper, governments are putting a price on carbon, and the world is shifting to a low-carbon economy. 80% of fossil fuels reserves (like oil and coal) need to be kept underground if we're going to meet the goals outlined in the Paris Accord. Companies that own these fossil fuel reserves might see these assets become 'stranded' and worthless on the market. Sectors that are avoided can include energy, mining, pipelines, and coal-burning utilities.
Fortunately, there are now lots of mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that are fossil fuel free. It's never been easier to completely divest from fossil fuels, and I'm here to support you.
